Omega

Since their launch, OMEGA’s Seamaster Aqua Terra watches have attracted a large, enthusiastic following. The line characterized by the distinctive “teak-concept” vertical lines on their dials has been extended with the release of the first models with an annual calendar complication.

The Aqua Terra collection is a perfect union of eye-catching design excellence and innovative 21st century watchmaking technology. The Annual Calendar models, in stainless steel or an elegant bi-colour blend of stainless steel and 18 Ct red gold, are a dramatic but logical next step in the mechanical watch revolution which has been taking place at OMEGA since the launch of the first Co-Axial calibre more than a decade ago.

The watches are powered by the OMEGA Co-Axial calibre 8601/8611, a high-precision COSC-certified chronometer which features the additional functionality of an instantaneous jump annual calendar complication. This annual calendar automatically recognizes months with 30 and 31 days and needs to be manually corrected only once a year, on March 1st.
The Aqua Terra Annual Calendar timepieces are also equipped with OMEGA’s exclusive Si 14 silicon balance springs. Silicon is non-magnetic so the performance of the Si 14 balance-spring is not disturbed by exposure to magnetic objects. While the performance of mechanical watches tends to deviate over time as a result of small everyday shocks, these disturbances have very little effect on Si 14 silicon balance-springs.

The watches selected from the Aqua Terra Annual Calendar collection include a bi-coloured model in 18 Ct red gold and stainless steel and another in stainless steel. They feature OMEGA’s patented screw and pin system bracelets which match the case metals.

All of Aqua Terra watches have a connection to the ocean – they are Seamasters, after all. The vertical “teak-concept” lines are so-named because they recall the teakwood decks of luxury boats – but the Aqua Terra Annual Calendar watches are equally at home on dry land. Like the rest of the Aqua Terra family, they truly live up to their name.

Breitling

Breitling has revived the design of the legendary diver’s instrument it launched in 1957. While the technical qualities that have forged the Superocean’s reputation have been respected, the timepiece has been given a thoroughly new look. The rubber-moulded bezel features sloping numerals and flutes that underscore its technical nature and adventurous vocation. The strikingly distinctive dial is a continuation of the same vigorous design with applique numerals and hourmarkers standing out against the black Abyss ground, which is encircled by a blue, yellow, red, silvered or black bevelled flange. A born diver, it is water-resistant to 1,500 metres and has all the attributes of a professional instrument, like the safety valve that automatically releases the accumulated helium when the internal over-pressure reaches around 3 bar.

Movement Automatic, Breitling 17 calibre, COSC-certified, 25 jewels, 28,800 vib/h
Functions Hours, minutes, seconds and date
Case Steel, 42 mm

Breguet

Model:Type XXII 3880 ST

Its stainless steel case, 44 mm across, houses a Breguet chronograph movement with silicon escapement and flat balance spring whose frequency has been raised to 10 Hertz (i.e. 72,0 00 vibrations per hour), endowing the movement with exceptional regulating power, its chronograph seconds hand effecting a complete rotation in 30 seconds.

An extra hand at center counts the minutes by adding together the 30-second spans. At 12 o’clock, a rectangular aperture in the dial displays a retrograding pointer that indicates whether the chronograph seconds hand is completing its first or its second 30-second revolution.

The Breguet Type XXII chronograph naturally features a flyback function, allowing the totaliser to be returned to zero and instantly restarted in one and the same operation. Furthermore, the dial includes a second time-zone indicator along with an aperture for a date calendar.

A two-position crown resets the second time -zone indicator by moving the hour hand at centre without affecting the minute hand. With the crown in that position, the date calendar obeys the time of the main time-zone displayed at centre. A 24-hour night-and-day indicator at 3 o’clock tells the wearer whether it is daytime or nighttime in the area covered by the second time -zone.

At nine o’clock, a subdial showing the running seconds making full rotations in 30 seconds completes this truly exceptional timepiece.

TAG Heuer Pendulum Concept Watch

The 1st Mechanical Movement Without Hairspring

Developed and constructed in-house by TAG HEUER - A MAJOR WATCHMAKING INNOVATION! During its 150 years at the forefront of the Swiss avant-garde, TAG Heuer has written some of the most important chapters in the history of mechanical watchmaking — from the oscillating pinion patented in 1887 to the groundbreaking 1/100th-of-a-second precision of the Calibre 360 chronograph in 2005.

Technological advancements like this point to one underlying truth: TAG Heuer does not innovate for innovation’s sake. The brand’s passion for the avant-garde is an essential element of its DNA and history, and the driving force of its R&D strategy.

TAG HEUER R&D OBJECTIVES IN THE 3RD MILLENNIUM: TO PROGRESSIVELY RE-INVENT THE THREE ELEMENTARY PRINCIPLES OF WATCHMAKING — ENERGY, TRANSMISSION AND REGULATION

Like most machines, a mechanical watch movement involves four basic operations: energy is generated, stored, transmitted and regulated. For centuries, these constants of mechanical watchmaking have been performed by three complementary blocks: a power storage system with cylindrical barrel, a transmission system with pinions and gears, and a regulation system with balance wheel, spiral hairspring and escapement.

With the TAG Heuer Monaco V4 Concept Watch, TAG Heuer substituted the traditional pinion and gear transmission with a belt-driven mechanical transmission. An award-winning BaselWorld concept watch in 2004, the Monaco V4 became a commercial reality at the end of 2009, when it was successfully launched in limited edition of 150 “Haute Horlogerie” pieces.

Now, to mark its 150th anniversary, TAG Heuer proudly introduces the TAG Heuer Pendulum Concept, the first-ever mechanical movement without hairspring.
